Gender bender- May 31, 2010

We are just a day away from finding out whether our little Mango is a boy or a girl.  (Oh, we’re at mango this week.  No Farmers’ Market pics.  Tropical lovelies like that don’t grow here in NC.)  Wednesday, June 2 is the day we no longer have to refer to our child as a fruit, but rather as he or she.

When my friend Colleen was here last week we were at the drug store and discussed buying Intelligender.  Have you heard of this?  It can predict the sex of your baby before the doc can.  Supposedly it’s more accurate than dangling your wedding ring on the end of a chain over your belly.  Have you heard of this little trick?  But, no way was I buying this $40 pee test.

According to the Ancient Chinese Gender Chart, (or internet gimmick, I don’t know) it’s a boy.  Supposedly that thing has a 90% accuracy rate.  (What?  50% of the time?)
I have to say this for the chart, I’ve been in agreement.  From the first night we found out we were pregnant I’ve thought it was a boy.  Greyson has been with me on this and we haven’t wavered until the last few days.    My sister would bet everything it’s a girl.  My Papa (Paternal Grandfather) would give his right arm for it to be a boy.
I guess what it comes down to for me is I just don’t care.
For example, nothing on earth bugs me more than when a friend has given birth to their healthy, beautiful, second son and another friend immediately says.  “Do you think she’ll try again for a girl?”  What?!  Who thinks like that?  Every child is a blessing regardless.  And, God forbid a child overheard something like that someday and for any reason at all felt unwanted.
Besides, I know parents who have gotten their wish for a “perfect” and “balanced ” family with one boy and one girl, and are no more perfect, balanced, or happy than any other family.  (Some are a hot mess actually.)  The sex of the children doesn’t determine the happiness and love a family has.
So, yes, I’m excited to know for sure how I’m going to decorate the nursery.  (Which by-the-way, no matter which sex will be KICK ASS!)  But, Baby I love you no matter if the room is pink or blue.  I just think of Wednesday as the day I get to know you a little more.

Can't wait to hear the great news on Wednesday! And by the way, the Chinese chart said I was having a boy…
