Quick Quote Friday- October 1, 2010
“Your kids don’t need to know who you were before you had them. They need to know who you wish you were and they need to try to live up to that person. They’re gonna fall short. But better they fall short of the fake you, than the real you.” -Claire Dunphy

I heard this quote on “Modern Family” this week. (Seriously, if you’re not watching this show you’re missing the best show on television right now. It is hilarious! Oprah had the cast on her show this week.) The character Claire was worried her daughters would find out about some of her youthful indiscretions like skinny dipping with a boyfriend and being brought home by the police.
This quote is so funny, and so true. I couldn’t help but think of looking down at my perfect, precious little baby and hoping she never finds out about the night when I was 16 and my friends and I met college boys, drank vodka, and made out with them. (Sorry Mom!) I mean, she definitely can’t know anything about Spring Break 2000 back in college. I will just die if she ever found out about the night in high school I told my parents I was spending the night at the girls sleepover but, really I went to….you know what? I’ll stop. The self incrimination has gone far enough.
At least I know her Daddy has had his moments too. The stories of the parties he threw when his parents were out-of-town would shame Mike Seiver. He may have to answer to his daughter one day too.

I think about this from time to time too. Especially in relation to underage drinking in college ahem, etc…
Wise words from a funny show.
