They say age is just a number- June 16, 2010

This is one of those things you hear and you immediately have to have a conversation with someone about this.  It would start like this…..”Have you heard about this 66-year-old woman in India who just gave birth to triplets?!”

After some discussion and a quick Google check the realization would sink in.  Holy menopause that is just 4 years away from 70!  Okay, here’s an article…..

66-year-old gives birth to triplets in Haryana
Hisar, June 13 (IANS)
After nearly 44 years of a childless married life, a 66-year-old woman in Haryana has given birth to triplets, becoming possibly the oldest woman to do so.
wonder woman: Bhateri Devi with her babies in Hisar on Sunday. ptiBhateri Devi gave birth to the triplets – two boys and a girl – May 29 at National Fertility Centre here through In-vitro Fertilisation (IVF) technique, officials at the centre said on Sunday, adding she was possibly the oldest known mother in the world to give birth to triplets.

“According to the birth certificate issued by a government hospital in Rohtak district, Bhateri Devi was born on May 21, 1944 in Madina village of Rohtak. This birth proof is authentic and therefore she has become the oldest mother in the world to give birth to triplets so far,” Anurag Bishnoi, who supervised the whole process, told reporters.

“Bhateri Devi was coming to us for the last many months for the treatment. She has become mother for the first time and conceived only in our third attempt through IVF technique,” he said. “For the first two attempts, only two embryos were transferred in each cycle. But in third attempt three embryos were transferred in her uterus, resulting in the birth of three children by a caesarean process.”

However, the doctors said that triplets, weighing 1.2 kilogram, 1.1 kilogram and 800 grams, were underweight and they were kept in the intensive care unit of the centre.

Bhateri Devi is a resident of Satrod village in this district, some 300 km from Chandigarh. Her husband Deva Singh, 64, is also very excited on becoming father at this age.
“Bhateri has fulfilled my dream of having a child and gave my family an heir. She was my first wife and after she failed to conceive a child, I married twice but again I did not have any child from my other wives also,” he said.

“I am very happy and I would provide all the best facilities to my children in the coming years,” he added.

In November 2008, 70-year-old Rajo Devi, a resident of a village in Jind district in Haryana, made headlines after she gave birth to a girl child through IVF technique at the same centre. She had conceived a child after a long hiatus of over 54 years. Both mother and child are in good health at present.

This is really amazing.  I wonder if OB’s and fertility specialists in the States would treat a 66 year-old-woman?  If you have the time and the will.  Maybe you can find out here.  (I would check but, Mama needs a nap today.)

I can’t imagine the strain on her body!  I mean, it’s hard enough at 28.  Oh, almost 29 actually, just thought of that.  Wow!  I’m getting old.  Well, I guess not….

Ring it up at the Register- June 13, 2010

When we registered for our wedding we were on scanner gun toting mission.  Crate and Barrel had never seen the likes of this trigger happy Bride and Groom.  The destruction at Tombstone after the Gunfight at the OK Corral was nothing compared to the damage we left.   No waffle iron this side of the Mississippi had a prayer.

It wasn’t until we got a registry once-over by our mothers that we realized we needed a little more organization.  We got it together by rounding things out at other stores with a little more restraint.
So, for Baby we’ve done some homework.  After we found out she was a girl we went to Babies R Us and Pottery Barn Kids to look around.
I’m not registering at either of those places.  I’ll explain in a minute.  I think we’re gonna go with Buy Buy Baby and Smart Momma.  Okay, this was our experience store by store…
First up, the losers:
Babies R Us– I know this is the most popular place to register.  A lot of people like it.  The stores are everywhere.  You can find a ton of stuff.  I’ve bought gifts from there previously.
But, I had a lousy experience and they will not be getting my business.  I don’t know how the store in your area is but, ours was dirty.  The stuff was dirty.  A gum smacking teenager led me through the registry process.  I’m just not confident someone that with a high school class of 2011 ring and glitter nail polish knows a lot about breast pumps or Pack-And-Plays.  But, maybe she does.  I’ve seen that “16 and Pregnant” show on MTV.
Sorry, I know this would be a convenient place for out-of-state family to buy gifts.  But, Greyson and I agreed it was out.
Pottery Barn Kids– Beautiful stuff.  I love the catalog and the website.  My niece and nephew have adorable nurseries with bedding and furniture from this store.  But, we didn’t find the just the right stuff.  I liked it all, just didn’t find what I think I’ll love, you know?  I think if I had fallen in love with a particular crib set or something I would’ve registered there.
Target– Not enough furniture and bedding to choose from for me to register. But, my love runs deep for Target baby!  Anything else I need, I head for the big red dot inside a bigger red circle.  Isn’t amazing how you go to Target for like one thing and the next thing you know you’ve dropped 50 bucks?  I hate that.  (Oh! But, I love it!)
Registry Winners:
Buy Buy Baby–  I was not familiar with this store until recently.  They are relatively new and are slowly becoming nationwide.  They’re like Bed Bath and Beyond for baby stuff.  (Actually, they’re owned by Bed Bath and Beyond.  You know those coupons you get in the mail?  You can use them at Buy Buy Baby.  No kidding!)  They had a lot of the same stuff as Babies R Us but, a lot better.  They had WAY more furniture and bedding.  They carried more high-end stuff like strollers and car seats.  Their staff were adults who explained the process.  I’ve heard rave reviews about their return policy.  The store was CLEAN!
They only have two stores in NC so far.  One in Charlotte and one in Durham.  So I did have to drive from Raleigh to Durham but, I’ll go the extra 20 minutes for this place.  Plus, their swag bag for registering was full of way more free stuff than Babies R Us.  That registers with me!
Smart Momma– God bless the local small business owner!  I’ve seen this store’s commercials on TV and I know about Heather through this baby blog world I’m getting into.  They have the high-end things I was looking for.  (I want quality stuff that’s gonna last you know?)
Heather is the store owner and could not have been more helpful today.  She went through all the strollers and car seats and explained all of their features to Greyson and I.  I was digging the BumbleRide and the Uppa Baby strollers.  Plus, they are moving their store to a location literally across the street from our neighborhood.  Greyson picked out the sweetest little outfit for our little Tar Heel.  (UNC is his Grad School Alma Mater.)
Daddy picked out a dress for his girl.
You know, thinking back, we never did get that waffle iron.

"C" is for cookie- June 10, 2010

So I have to go to bed soon because I’m working early tomorrow.  I call Greyson on the way home from work and ask him to pick up dinner.  We decide on Panera Bread and I tell him what I want.  I said, “Oh yeah, I want a cookie too.”  I get home, and take a shower getting pumped for my cookie.

Yeah, one of these babies.
He gets home.  I get out of the shower and pull out my salad with grilled chicken and soup.  I looked in the bag again.  No cookie.
Me: “Grey, did you get my cookie.”
Him: “Oh no! Baby I forgot to order it.”
Me: “Oh, that’s okay.”
Him: “Do you want me to go back and get one?”
Me: “No, that’s okay.”
Him:  “I feel bad.  But, I mean, it’s just a cookie.”
Me:  “Okay, but in the Third Trimester you have to go back.”
We both laugh and eat while watching Top Chef Masters on the DVR.
My brain in the last 10 minutes…..
No dessert in the house will suffice.  I cannot stop thinking of the goodness that are these cookies.  I want cookies and milk.  Oh Amy, pull it together, it’s just a cookie!  These pregnancy cravings aren’t real.  No, I’m gonna lick the screen where I just posted a picture of that cookie.
Greyson is at the store now making a cookie run.  I hope he gets some beer for himself.  If “C” is for cookie than “A” is for awesome husband.

"Livin’ On A Prayer!"- June 9, 2010

Okay, we’re not really “livin’ on a prayer” but, it goes so well with “halfway there!”  And, tomorrow we’re 20 weeks!  Halfway there baby!

On her son’s 1st birthday my friend Heather wrote “What she had learned the first year of being a Mom” on her blog.  She sent it to me the other day.  Enjoy!  (Check out her son Travis.  He’s so stinkin’ cute!)

It inspired me to write a list of things I’ve learned in the first half of my first pregnancy.

1.  Morning sickness is a misnamed affliction.–  I felt sick in the evening.  I didn’t want much dinner at all.  I consider myself EXTREMELY fortunate because I never once actually puked.

2.  Prenatal vitamins are worth their weight in gold.– I read in What To Expect Before You’re Expecting that taking vitamins several months before conception can reduce morning sickness.  I believe it, and my nails have never looked better.

3.  Do not plan a vacation in the First Trimester.– Don’t get me wrong.  Greyson and I had an AWESOME time on our 5th anniversary Vegas trip.  But, we went right as I was getting to 13 weeks.  Seriously, if I had waited just one more week I would’ve felt that much better and had more energy.

4.  The Second Trimester rocks!– I seriously have not felt that pregnant until the last two weeks or so.  I have way more energy to work out, do things around the house, and be with friends.

5.  Pregnancy hasn’t been like putting on a “fat suit”.–  I guess I just assumed I would immediately blow up when knocked up.   So far I’ve gained 3 pounds.  (Although more is coming for sure!  I am hungry now!)  I didn’t really show much at all until 18 weeks or so, and 99% of my clothes are still my old clothes.  I have some jeans I don’t wear without the Bella Band and one little dress.

I consider myself extremely blessed so far.  I pray my good fortune continues.  I felt her move this week!  That seriously has to be what it is.  Okay Baby, here’s to another 20 weeks full of good fortune!  (Picture me lifting a glass of chocolate milk.  That’s my newest thing, chocolate milk.)  We’ll see how our list changes in the coming months.

A Boy in the ‘Hood- June 8, 2010

So remember how I was telling you how awesome our group of friends in our neighborhood are?  I mean, seriously they are the greatest.

Well, Mike and Erin found out yesterday they’re having a Boy!  That’s exactly what they were hoping for and I couldn’t be happier for them.  It’s like our baby’s first friend.  Yeah!

Me and Erin.  The Moms-To-Be during the Superbowl Party ’10 (I wasn’t pregnant yet.  Erin may have been.  I’m not sure.)
