Our little boxer- April 20, 2010

So insurance covered the extra, optional first trimester screening.  The one you have to get between 12 and 14 weeks that tests for Down Syndrome and Trisomy 18.  We were not at all worried about any disorder.  If there were any problems we would follow the doctor’s advice about carrying the child to term.  We would most likely have the baby and love it no matter what.  We did the screening because it was a free ultrasound. I’ll take it!  I wanted another glimpse at the little bean before we get on a plane this week.

I was pleased to learn this ultrasound was soley taking place on the epidermis of my belly.  (Ladies, you know how invasive it can be for that first ultrasound.)  The technician popped the image on the screen and the first thing our kid did was like this bucking jump or something.  I thought it was pissed at us for sending so many sound waves it’s way.  The tech assured me our baby was moving on it’s own!  What!?  No way our kid moves that much and I don’t feel it.  Sure enough.  It does.  It was moving so much the tech couldn’t get the proper measurements until the baby calmed down.

He asked if we wanted the 60/40 guess on the sex of the baby.  I declined.  I’d like better odds so I don’t get one gender in my mind.  I wanted to wait until the 18 week ultrasound to get a clear look at it’s junk.

The weirdest thing was the little punches.  The tech says, “It’s punching itself in the face.”  It was!  It’s little fists were punching the fluid around it, and almost slapping it’s little face.  Please baby!  Take it easy!  Wait for your sibling, cousin, or annoying peer to play the “Stop hitting yourself” game.  You’re just a little fetus!
