Viva Las Vegas- April 22-26, 2010

We had been planning to go to Las Vegas for our 5th anniversary for some time.  We justified bringing our unborn child to Sin City because we had already paid for it.  (Please mail our “Parents of the Year” award to our home address.)
In my delicate condition, this was not a martini-drinking-casino-hopping-all-night-gambling-puke-inducing kind of trip.  But, it was a spa-going-poolside-sitting-fine-dining-Cirque-show-seeing kind of trip.  Heaven!  Exactly what we needed.

We stayed at The Palazzo.  Gorgeous!  We dined at the Bellagio and caught “O”, the coolest Cirque de Soile show ever.  Awesome!  We ate French food at Hubert Keller’s (our favorite chef on Top Chef Masters) restaurant in Mandalay Bay.  Delicious!  We had a couple’s massage at the Canyon Ranch Spa. Relaxing!

But, when Greyson asked me what my favorite part was, I said it was just walking around the strip with him.  We held hands even when they got sweaty from the heat.  We laughed at the guys on the street handing out nudie pics and promising us “A girl to you in 20 minutes!”  (I couldn’t decide who was more fetching, Brandi with an “i”, or Krystal with a “k”, both with the fake boobs.)  We played roulette and slot machines at the cheesy casinos and lost.

We got a call from the nurse at the OB’s office telling us everything was totally normal on the 1st trimester screening just as we started the 2nd trimester.  Some good news from the real world was nice.

On Friday night, on our actual anniversary, Greyson had the idea to play roulette and place bets on our anniversary and the date the baby is due.  We were the only ones at the table.  I stacked the chips high and proudly told the dealer the reasoning behind our special numbers.  He smiled and told us we were winners for sure.  I felt a little lurch of anticipation as the little silver ball rolled around, and around, and around.  Finally landing on some other number.

We were losers.  We left with lighter wallets and numbers that didn’t seem as special  But, I left the casino smiling, squeezing Greyson’s sweaty hand because I knew being married to him and having our child was no gamble, no chance.  It was a choice.  A choice we had made everyday for the last five years.  Now, we’re going to keep on choosing each other and our life together for years to come.

Happy Anniversary Grey!

Us with an Elvis from Roanoke Rapids, NC and a Michael Jackson mascot thing.

Las Vegas is a good place for partying! If you haven’t heard, Hakkasan Nightclub is opening. It is the biggest nightclub inside the MGM. The nightclub also has a restaurant. Check it out!
