Showered With Love Part 2- September 15, 2010

Okay, so yesterday I joking about how silly I am to do 2 posts on the baby shower.  Guess what.  I can’t even fit it all today without making an obnoxiously long post.  So, as obnoxious as it is, I’m writing 3 posts (yep, 3 posts) on the shower.
At this weekend’s shower, my sister Julie read some funny stories our families had written about us.  She used the dress theme from our nursery to compile a book after painstakingly making these little pages decorated with dresses.

On the first page of the book she wrote this…

Although we do not know your new little girl yet, your family has given her a storybook of her mom and dad.  We hope your family enjoys these antecdotes and keeps them close as a reminder that a family’s love is unconditional.

It is all too appropriate that you chose a dress pattern for her baby bedding.  As a girl, your daughter will wear a multitude of dresses in her lifetime, although she may not like wearing dresses at first, she’ll eventually embrace the special feeling a dress can bring.  From her dedication at church, to first day of school, to prom and her wedding day, you will picture her in the special dress to remember the milestones in her life.

Like making a dress, you have crafted a unique pattern in your daughter. Seams may need to be reinforced from time to time and the fabric must be washed and mended regularly.  Accidents happen and there may be a tear or two, don’t panic, these are normal and can easily be repaired.  Adjustments in the sides and hem need to be made for growth.  Over time the dress may change, but the immeasurable feeling a special dress brings will always remain.  Like a dress, your daughter will excite you whenever she’s around and others will admire her beauty.

Remember, you are surrounded with family and friends who will help with the mending and upkeep anytime.

I couldn’t actually read this at the shower because I knew my progesterone fueled body would be too weepy to get through it.  My whole heart bursts when I read this.  It’s a reminder of what a great family my child is being born into.  Thanks Boo (that’s what we call Julie), you made a baby shower so much more.  I love you, and I love all the dresses we’ve shared in the big moments of life.
