Showered With Love Part 3- September 16, 2010
Seriously, this is the last baby shower post.
Everyone knows what shower is for. I mean, you get stuff. Even more than just three days worth of blog posts. (Cha-ching!) We got some amazing things we really love. We were overwhelmed by how generous our family and friends were.
My mom’s gifts weren’t expensive. They weren’t from the registry. They weren’t new. That’s why they were great.
It took me a second when I opened the first one to realize what it was…
All of my early memories are sort of fuzzy, like looking through cellophane. Everything was so big because you was so small. I looked at this quilt. Every bunny and every little bear stitched on it made me think of another day in my room when I was very small. I remember my mom changing my sister’s diaper as it hung on the wall. Each animal had been sewn by family and friends before I was born. I had forgotten all about it, but I would’ve known it anywhere. Many of the women who had sewn this quilt sat in front of me.
One thing I did remember was this…

My Great-Grandmother made this for me when I was a baby. It hung in my room and my sister’s room when we were babies. After years of storage in different houses it ended up in our attic. I pulled it out when I got pregnant and told Greyson I didn’t think there was any hope for it. It had mildew stains all over it. I was hoping to restore it. Several dry cleaners said I was out of luck. Mom took it anyway. I really didn’t expect to see it again. She cleaned it…by hand…all by herself. She had it matted and reframed.
Now I can show my baby this in her room and tell her that her Great-Great Grandmother made it. More than that, her Grandmother went to great lengths to make sure it could be hers.
See…that was worth three posts. Thanks for hanging with me.
