Infantile bills- January 24, 2011
It cost more than $7,000 dollars to have our baby. That price doesn’t include baby furniture, and baby stuff we bought. I’m just talking about the hospital fee. Unlike many Americans we have pretty good health insurance and only had to cough up about $160 of the 7K. Not too bad. We are lucky.
We’re not paying this right now. I want to see how long until they contact me about this bill, then maybe I’ll dig between the car seats and cough up some change. Hey, maybe they’ll add a late fee to make it worth it to write a check. I’m willing to sacrifice the overdue charge for this little experiment. Any guesses on how long until they contact me about this ridiculous bill?
It’s enough to make me want to move to Canada. I hear Canadian babies are free, ‘eh.

I remember a bill for 23 cents once. A postage stamp costs more. WHY?!
the bills for my c-section totalled ~$15k. thank goodness for insurance. but a bill for 60 cents is a bit ridiculous.
You probably got the bill because it is an automated process that sends it out. A human probably never saw the balance. The program that is used to generate the bill probably was not programed to take into consideration such a small amount. Asking for that fix to be made would not be financially worth it for the medical company, especially since most people pay because it is such a small amount. As for the argument that it was so little they should cover it, 0.60 times who knows how many people really adds up.
Just make sure you don't get turned into collections for that .60. It could cost you a TON more than just that .60.
My delivery with my first was ten thousand dollars, not counting the 1200 nursery fee and the $3500 in OB fees. Yikes.
Things they should tell teenagers about having babies – it's expensive! I think a birthing video and a copy of a hospital bill to every high school student just might help bring down the teen pregnancy rate!
