Time to blog?- January 26, 2011

Here I am, smack dab in the middle of the first full week back at work.  We’re getting into a groove.  Every day we’re making little changes to get things right in our daily regime.  But, I’m having trouble finding time to meet ya’ll here at my little corner of the Internet.  (Nevermind the makeover that’s desperately needed around here.  One day this will be officially a baby blog instead of a pregnancy blog.  Bear with me.  ::sigh::)

So here are my questions for working moms… (I do believe all moms are working moms.  That is not a slight to SAHM’s.  You have a lot on your plates too.)  How do you find time to blog?  What is your blogging schedule?   How has it changed?

Here’s my situation.  I work 4:00am-1:00pm.  Sometimes I leave work as late as 2:00pm or 2:30pm.  I get the afternoons and evenings with Charlotte.  Greyson gets her up in the morning and puts her to bed at night.  (This breaks my heart.  I’m living for weekends so I can be with her when she goes to sleep and wakes up.)  I have to be in bed by 8:00pm at the latest.  I don’t often have time during my work day to blog, but I can try to sneak a post in here or there.  Oh Lord!  When am I ever going to get to responding to comments my blog on top of visiting the fantastic sites of all my best blog buddies?

Okay, I’m off to play with the baby, do the dishes, and cook dinner.

okay, here is what works for me and i know i am not a mom yet, but when i worked full time it was hard for me too. i keep a word document with ideas and write in it whenever i get an idea, same with my planner if i am out and about i jot it down. i also have a notebook with me all the time if i have a spare moment and a blog post coms to me. i also use sunday mornings as a day to write up a bunch of posts that i have ideas for and schedule them to post. once a month i make a list of all the posts i want to post and the date i want to post them on, then i check it once a day or so and write up a post or two to stay ahead.

I'd imagine working out of the home makes it harder to find the time. That's just another ballgame all together but for me as a SAHM i find time when there is time. Whether it's nap or bedtime or a quick moment while all the kids play happily together. I just steal a moment. Give yourself some time to get into a good groove and you'll figure out where you can squeeze in blogging. Planning them out might work better for you. Until then don't give yourself a hard time by any means!

I sneak it in during work time while my programs are running or at night after the kids go to bed. My posts are mostly just day-in-the-life type stuff so I try to stay on top of it. If I get behind it's hard to catch up and I end up with hodge-podge posts about a bunch of random stuff.

You're doing great if you're already finding a groove in week 2! I've been back to work 3 months since my 2nd maternity leave and I'm still struggling to figure it out. And having a baby in the hospital recently hasn't helped.

I do at different times. My work schedule's a little more standard than yours 6:30-3:30 or so. Sometimes I come home after work and let Will stay at daycare an extra hour (especially since he started preferring to stay there and play rather than go home with me :(- "No house, Mommy!"), and I'll blog then. Sometimes there's time at work if students are in exams, or I have student teacher. Usually I do it after I put him to bed at 8:30. All of those times are time you don't seem to have available. I crank them out pretty quickly, though, despite their length, so I don't spend more than half an hour on it a few days a week, and I only write when I have something to say, which has been more frequent lately– crazy hormones. You'll figure it out.

Right now, as a SAHM of a two year old, I make breakfast, turn on PBS/Disney/Nick Jr. (depending on what show Sebastian is in the mood to watch) and I blog while he eats & watches TV. It usually takes me about 30 minutes and then another 30 to catch up on the blogs that I read.

I'm not sure if this will work at your job or not, but when I was working and blogging I would write out my post on notebook paper as I had down-time and then quickly type it up later that night whenever Sebastian was sleeping, playing, or whatever.

    Good luck finding your groove!

I am the WORST at this. I had such big plans to keep up with my blogging schedule when I started student teaching last fall, but I failed miserably!! In November, I posted TWICE! It's really hard!! I finally feel like I'm back in the groove. I'm trying to use my weekends when I do have a little (really little) bit extra time. I'm going to try to post ahead of time. I'm also just going to do the opposite of what is probably suggested & just try to post some short & sweet version of whatever is on my mind. Quantity over quality. Eek!

I'm really intimidated by Adriel at The Mommyhood Memos because she always crafts these beautiful, long, perfect posts with pictures that fit & I'm just a total mess, doing my best to post just one thing that vaguely conveys what I'm thinking!! LOL

You'll figure it out, though. You're just a few days in & already doing way better than I did!!

I posted a lot of pictures and less words when I was working. I would also write emails to myself when I was waiting in line, before a meeting (maybe during a meeting when Long-Winded Larry would start on his 45 minute tirade) then copy the words to a post later.

Oh Amy! I wish I had an answer for you! That is quite a demanding schedule you have and my heart goes out to you!

Unfortunately, for me, blogging is one of the first things to go. I love it, but love Cooper more. I usually have about 1/2 dozen blog posts going in my head and just hope they one day make it onto the world wide web.

hey, thank you for stopping by. :)

to answer your question…I DON'T KNOW. I think I don't spend a ton of time working on my blog and it shows. I tend to get a flurry of ideas all at once and write those posts, schedule them…then do nothing for a few weeks and begin the cycle again.

    It kinda works? :)
