Musicality and Anatomy- March 7, 2014

They say your children teach you more than you teach them. I’m starting to believe that.

Recently my daughter was belting out the “Alphabet Song,” which she charmingly calls “ABCDEFG.” She barely took a breath before starting “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.” I think she learned a Russian or Slovak version as she says “Tvinkle, Tvinkle.” So worldly.

My husband pauses. With realization dawning on his face he says, “Whoa! Do ‘ABC’s’ and ‘Twinkle, Twinkle’ have the same melody?!” I looked at him funny and replied, “Um, yeah, you didn’t know that?”

I’m no composer, but I have two ears.

Last week I was changing the baby’s diaper. He’s finally getting over a nasty cough. I was making the switch from dirty diaper to clean when he coughed.

Ya’ll. They moved.

I gasped and nearly jumped back from the changing table. Realization dawned on me. I said to my husband, “Oh, my God! That’s why they have  you guys turn your head and cough!” He looked at me funny and said, “Um, yeah, you didn’t know that?”

He’s no urologist, but he has two balls.

Oh my God. Bill and I had this exact same conversation two years ago, I swear. Including the twinkle twinkle Part. I also blew his mind by telling him that it was also the tune for Bob Bob Black sheep. He also told me during that same conversation, however, that he was 26 when he finally figured out that he was circumcised. So there’s that.

Seriously? 26?! Was he just unusually good at maintaining eye contact in locker rooms?

      • Katie says:

No, he thought that only Jewish people circumcised their sons. So when he saw “in-tact” males, he thought they were the ones who were circumcised and he was uncircumcised. I laughed for a really long time when he told me that.

Also, I just realized that I put “Bob Bob Black Sheep” instead of “Bah Bah Black Sheep”. That’s what happens when I use the voice transcriber on the phone instead of typing it outright. Sorry!

David G from GFBC used to sing a mixture of those songs right along with Baa baa blacksheep on adult SS retreats. Had he not done this I might have missed it too. Mozart did us a great service letting us borrow his song for the many lyrics we have attached to it.
