I mean, where would you have put it?- September 9, 2010

I haven’t been a fan of maternity clothes, so I haven’t bought a ton.  I still wear old skirts and pants with the Bella Band, which has served me well for the most part.  One thing I really hate about maternity clothes and the Bella Band is the small pockets, lack of pockets, or lack of access to pockets.

This is what I resorted to today.  I’m not proud of it.  But, it happened…

Yep, I stored my phone under my Bella Band.  Call it ridiculous.  Call it resourceful.  But, it worked well.  I may do it again tomorrow.
(Oh!  I almost forgot to tell you.  It’s Baby Shower weekend for us.  Family is coming into town.  I can’t wait!  I’ll see ya’ll Sunday or Monday with an update.  Have a great weekend!)

DJ Mommy & Daddy- September 7, 2010

We are so cool  silly that after much brainstorming, we headed to iTunes to make a little playlist for our baby.  The idea was to have lullabies and nice songs for her.  We are by no means music afficionados but, we have fun playlists titled things like “Wedding”, “Tailgating”, “Beach”, “Workout” etc.  We had a preliminary list of songs we wanted, for the “Baby Girl” list.  But, we ran into more than a few snags finding appropriate songs.

Ginger and I on the couch.  I was listening to our playlist.  She always gets mad when I hog the ear buds.
Greyson got started as I was doing other things and yells down from upstairs, “Amy, how about this one?”  He proceeded to blare Kanye West “Gold Digger.”  I died laughing.  That was a joke but I cannot tell you how many songs we thought would be great and then were like, “Wait, no, I think that’s about sex.”  “Nope, also about sex.”
We nixed each others suggestions.  Greyson refused my request for John Lennon’s “Imagine.”  “That’s a war protest Hippie song,” he said.  “Yeah, better than a pro-war battle cry,” I argued.  No dice.
We nixed suggestions from other people.  I had to get rid of “In My Daughter’s Eyes” by Martina McBride.  Sorry, too sappy, I couldn’t handle it.
Here’s some of our list…
  • “Isn’t She Lovely”- Stevie Wonder He wrote it for his daughter when he first saw her.  Well, met her.  I guess he didn’t see her.  (Oh wow, I’m going straight to hell for that one.)
  • “Sweet Baby James”- James Taylor
  • “You Got a Friend”- James Taylor He’s North Carolina’s native son!  He gets more than one song.
  • “Carolina In My Mind”- James Taylor Our state’s anthem.  Don’t let SC rednecks our neighbors to the south try to claim this one.  (That’s a joke SC!  Love ya!)
  • “Rocky Mountain High”- John Denver This one pays homage to Greyson’s home state.  (It is not a drug song Greyson, you sang it at summer camp!)
  • “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”- Isreal Kamakawiwo’ole  This version is so beautiful.
  • “Your Song”- Elton John
  • “In My Life”- The Beatles
  • “Forever Young”- Rod Stewart  It says everything you’d want your child to know.
  • “What a Wonderful World”- Louis Armstrong
  • “Lullaby Baby Blues”- Keb’ Mo
  • “Landslide”- Fleetwood Mac Danced with my Dad to this one at our wedding.
  • “A Wink and a Smile”- Harry Connick Jr.  Greyson and his mom danced to this one at our wedding.
  • “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star- Jewel Jewel’s album of lullabies is AMAZING!
  • “Rainbow Connection”- Kermit the Frog   It was surprisingly hard to find the Muppet Movie version.  The memories will seriously come flooding back when you listen to it.
We have a lot more.  I’m sure we’ll continue to add songs and nix the ones we realize are actually about sex.

Labor Day laments- September 6, 2010

I know I’m not the only one who gets a little sad on Sunday afternoons.  Well, Monday in this case.  We just got our weekends back together last month.  I’m finally working Mon.-Fri.  It has been so wonderful!  Greyson said to me “Wow, I forgot how much we like each other.”

I’ll get to the point, I promise.  Just indulge me as I recap…

Friday night we had dinner with our friend Amy at one of our favorite spots in town.

Saturday my husband, a grown man, woke up singing and dancing because it was the start of college football season.  I went shopping with Colleen.  For the late game we went out for wings and beer (water for me) with Dave and Trish.

Sunday we took Ginger out for breakfast before going to the flea market.  We assembled the crib.  That night we watched a movie.

I guess what makes me sad this Monday is knowing today was one of the last times we took Ginger for a hike without a stroller.  It’s one of the last weekends sleeping in as late as we want, and doing whatever we want.  Now that we have weekends together, the number we have of “just us” is very numbered.  Don’t get me wrong.  We’re excited.  It’s just that it’s almost the end of an era.

So we’re soaking up every moment of this…

This is Greyson freaking out because my feet are touching his.  He is also freaking out because this game is not being shown in HD.

Word (oh, who am I kidding) LESS Wednesday- September 1, 2010

Driving around today I saw this temporary shop pop up…

The Halloween store.  I thought, “My baby is due the week of Halloween.  October 28.  Oh wow. Today is September 1.  I mean, I know they push it with these holiday stores but, whoa!  Time flies.  I don’t think she’ll show up until November though.”
Any bets we’ll see Christmas decorations before we see my kid?

Now THAT is a good looking kid!- August 30,2010

Okay, so in all the ultrasound pics so far, our kid has kind of looked like an alien or something.  It went from a little amoeba to a little skeletal space creature.  She looked better at 18 weeks when we found out she was indeed a “she”.  I mean, I know I was supposed to be all like, “Oh, it’s a beautiful life inside me!”  blah, blah, blah…but, everyone knows they look kinda creepy in there.

But this is MUCH better!

Two eyes, a nose, and a mouth.  Victory!!!!
I mean, she’s got all the stuff around her, but look!  It’s a baby!  She has a face!  We saw it today!  (That’s her hand and arm by her face.)
Do not tap or hit glass
This one makes me laugh because it looks like her nose is pressed against the glass or something.  It looks like there’s some umbilical madness going on to the right.  (I think I heard a punk band called “Umbilical Madness” one time.)
She looks like my sister’s baby pictures.
She kept hiding her face.  My mom says, “Now I know your child isn’t camera shy!”  She came out of her shell when her lips were moving like she was talking.  Mom says, “She gets that honest!”  (We are confident this child will be a healthy talker considering whom she comes from.)
The nose thing again!  Let’s hope that’s not lasting.
We didn’t have a lot of room to get good shots.  That’s what we get for waiting until 31+ weeks to do the 3D thing.  I counted fingers and toes.  They’re all there.  They were cute too, for a little alien.
