Gender bender part 2- June 1, 2010

Please read Gender bender part 1 before continuing.  I have clarified a point or two.  It’s just below this.  I’ll wait.

Caught up?  Okay good.

So everyone seems to have their hunches as to whether it’s a boy or a girl.  I just hope it’s not an actual mango.  (That joke was from part 1.  If you didn’t get it than I know you’re not really caught up.)  I’ve loved hearing everyone’s guesses in recent days.

But, the thing that has totally floored me is the old wives tales.  I mean, I have been hearing stuff from friends and coworkers that Anne Boleyn must have heard!  Seriously!  “If you carry it high it’s a boy.” “If you have heartburn it’s a girl.”

I asked the OB/GYN.  Those things are all fake. If it has a penis, it’s a boy.  That’s the only way you can tell.

I’m just thankful my neck doesn’t depend on if it’s a boy.  Tough break Anne.  Thank God I’ll get to celebrate regardless of what it is tomorrow.

Anne Boleyn:  An old wife who died for a bunch of crazy stuff she did and one thing she didn’t do, produce a son.

Gender bender- May 31, 2010

We are just a day away from finding out whether our little Mango is a boy or a girl.  (Oh, we’re at mango this week.  No Farmers’ Market pics.  Tropical lovelies like that don’t grow here in NC.)  Wednesday, June 2 is the day we no longer have to refer to our child as a fruit, but rather as he or she.

When my friend Colleen was here last week we were at the drug store and discussed buying Intelligender.  Have you heard of this?  It can predict the sex of your baby before the doc can.  Supposedly it’s more accurate than dangling your wedding ring on the end of a chain over your belly.  Have you heard of this little trick?  But, no way was I buying this $40 pee test.

According to the Ancient Chinese Gender Chart, (or internet gimmick, I don’t know) it’s a boy.  Supposedly that thing has a 90% accuracy rate.  (What?  50% of the time?)
I have to say this for the chart, I’ve been in agreement.  From the first night we found out we were pregnant I’ve thought it was a boy.  Greyson has been with me on this and we haven’t wavered until the last few days.    My sister would bet everything it’s a girl.  My Papa (Paternal Grandfather) would give his right arm for it to be a boy.
I guess what it comes down to for me is I just don’t care.
For example, nothing on earth bugs me more than when a friend has given birth to their healthy, beautiful, second son and another friend immediately says.  “Do you think she’ll try again for a girl?”  What?!  Who thinks like that?  Every child is a blessing regardless.  And, God forbid a child overheard something like that someday and for any reason at all felt unwanted.
Besides, I know parents who have gotten their wish for a “perfect” and “balanced ” family with one boy and one girl, and are no more perfect, balanced, or happy than any other family.  (Some are a hot mess actually.)  The sex of the children doesn’t determine the happiness and love a family has.
So, yes, I’m excited to know for sure how I’m going to decorate the nursery.  (Which by-the-way, no matter which sex will be KICK ASS!)  But, Baby I love you no matter if the room is pink or blue.  I just think of Wednesday as the day I get to know you a little more.

That’s right! It’s a maternity shirt. Bring it!- May 28, 2010

We went out last night with friends.  I rocked a maternity shirt for the first time.  (Please note, the jeans were my regular jeans still buttoned.  Okay, I did unbutton them after dinner.)

Greyson took the pic before I was ready….

That’s better…

Toys, I hadn’t even though of toys.- May 27, 2010

Greyson has been out of town in Orlando on business.  (He got to go for a sneak preview of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, by the way, only one of my life’s ambitions.  My jealousy abounds.  But, he was sweet not to go on things without me.  Okay, Amy, you’re digressing, focus on your post.)

When my Mom was pregnant with me my parents went to Walt Disney World.  They bought me a little Pooh Bear to go in my crib.  I had it for years.

So, my heart almost burst open when Greyson came home from Orlando with our baby’s first toys.  These…

He said he figured you can’t go wrong with classics for first toys.  Enjoy Baby!

Best "weekend" I’ve had in awhile- May 25, 2010

So I have the lousy luck of working weekends.  There is a light at the end of the tunnel as that will soon change.   Having your days off on Mondays and Tuesdays is like getting your Christmas presents on December 27th.  I mean, sure, whoever gave them to you got a deal on the 26th.  But, you’re still having mediocre fun with no one around as you open them 2 days later.

But, this week I got the loveliest surprise for my weekend.  My old friend from college and sorority sister Colleen was in town.  She had a job interview and fingers crossed she’ll be moving to Raleigh.  This move wouldn’t just be for a new job but, a new start for my friend who’s ready for a change in a different city.  I got to take her around, we looked at new apartments, ate at some of my favorite places, and just got caught up.

She went with me as I bought my first maternity dress today!  Ahhh!  I needed something to wear to a wedding later this week and in June, so I sucked it up and got one.  Thankfully, it doesn’t even look that maternity.  This milestone reminded me of another wardrobe milestone.  Colleen was there as I  tried on wedding dresses for the first time.  He he!  Memories!

We even got to eat dinner with Sara one night.  Take a look at this picture.  This is us taking a few hours to just be together and not worry about careers, job interviews, ultrasound appointments, husbands, weight gain, ex-boyfriends, grad school, families, moving….whew!  (Is that all we worry about.)

I love you Girls!  (Thanks for letting the pregnant chick polish off the crab dip.  That’s friendship.)
