Tantrums and Toddles- November 9, 2011

This was Charlotte’s disposition most of today…

This afternoon she was a crying, whining, snotty nosed, stumbling, disgruntled mess.  No food, milk, nor toy would do.  I called Greyson and hurried him along for a little back-up.
Her mood swings will give you whiplash.  In her defense, she’s not feeling well.  She has a cold.  However, we’re just in the first week of being a 1-year-old and we’re already seeing toddler-like tantrums.
But a little later this evening Charlotte came up to me and gave me what could only be the first sort of “real hug” she’s ever given and then planted her drooly version of a kiss on my cheek.
In that moment I forgave and forgot every tantrum.  All was right with the world.

The Effect of 20 Babies- November 8, 2011

Ya’ll know I love the Duggars, so you know I was all over the big news of the 20th child today.

“I wonder what happens when she sneezes?”
I can’t take credit for this comment.  Some stranger on Facebook posted it today.  I know it’s irreverent and terrible of me, but it made me laugh.  Hard.  I hope it makes you  laugh too.  Hmm, now I wonder what happens when she laughs.  (Stop it Amy, stop it!)

A change is coming- November 7, 2011

Have you ever come to a point in life where you don’t know exactly what you want to do, but you know it isn’t this?  Yeah, that’s where I’m at.

A coworker said to me last week, “You know Amy, you seem really miserable on the job except when you talk about Charlotte.  You light up when you talk about her.”
Hmmm.
Could I incorporate being a mother and my love for writing into a career?  Other people do it, right?
Don’t get me wrong.  I’m grateful to have a job.  I’m very proud of what I’ve accomplished professionally and I like having Charlotte in her school.
But, I’m tired.  I’m run down.  I’m over it.
I feel change coming.  Maybe it’s change where I’m at.  Maybe it’s change somewhere else.  I just feel change.  You know?
I’m open to any and all ideas.
Enjoy this completely unrelated, but totally adorable picture of my daughter on her birthday  in her Birthday Girl dress.  (She’s riding the rocking frog we got her .)

Bushy brows- November 6, 2011

You may have heard that after decades in broadcasting, legendary television personality Andy Rooney died this week at age 92.

For most of my life I watched him at the end of 60 Minutes.  I would roll my eyes at his grouchy, old-fashioned observations. I scoffed at his typewriter, bushy eyebrows, and rants on used cars or cell phones.  I thought of him as a grumpy old curmudgeon only my grandparents listened to.

After watching numerous obituary tributes to him this weekend I got to thinking.  Is Andy Rooney really any different from all us bloggers?  He spent his life writing observations.  Isn’t that what we do on a more modern platform?  Maybe I shouldn’t scoff at his ramblings.  Aren’t they really just blog posts tapped out on a typewriter?

Rest in peace Mr. Rooney.  Thank you for making it okay to rant, no matter the medium.

Um,  yeah.  I drew Andy Rooney eyebrows on myself and my baby.  But, it’s in tribute.  So, it’s cool.

Friends divided- November 5, 2011

It’s a rivalry about as old as our state itself.  I know North Carolina is most known for it’s battle of the blues, Carolina and Duke.  Here in Raleigh however, the Carolina/State game annually renders its fair share of hatred.

Go Heels!
We tried to get tickets to the game and tailgate with our friends and die-hard Wolfpack fans, Mike and Erin, which we met at a chat live app, and they end up being fans of the same team that us.

Seriously, are there two people with better teeth and skin than  Erin and Mike?

Oh, we are silly newbie parents thinking our 1 year-olds would last a whole football game!  Plus, we were unsuccessful in scalping tickets.  So off we went to a favorite sports bar/restaurant to watch at least the first half.

A Tar Heel girl and a Wolfpack boy.  Such a Raleigh cliche!
Charlotte: “Wait!  What are you wearing?!”  Josh:  “What are you wearing?!”

Josh: “He he!  State is winning!  Take that!”
Charlotte: “Mama!  He’s gloating!  Why are the Heels playing so badly?!”

Peace comes at mealtime.
