Dancing with Glee

Blogger is back! Thank goodness! I have missed you, little blog! To celebrate I thought I’d post this silliness. I hope I don’t make anyone vomit. Excuse the part where it’s just my goofy face. I meant to have Charlotte in the shot.
This is a little glimpse of my afternoons with Charlotte. We catch up on the DVR while I’m still wearing a suit from work. On Glee this week they sang “Isn’t She Lovely”, which has been a constant anthem in our home since we found out we were having a girl. I love it when Mercedes says, “Isn’t this song about a baby?”

My baby the astronaut- May 10, 2011

So this is what our living room looks like these days.  We call the Mama Roo on the left the “space pod”.  When we registered, the lady at Buy Buy Baby was like, “Have you registered for an exersaucer?”  I said, “No, I’m not really interested in those.”  When she asked me why I said, “Because they are big, loud, and ugly.”  Greyson just shook his head in shame at my over-honesty, as he has so many times throughout our relationship.
I never ruled it out.  But, I put off buying one because we really don’t have room for those $80-$115 plastic monstrosities that are so many exersaucers on the market.  Charlotte LOVES the exersaucers at her school.  At home she still sits in her infant seat, Mama Roo, and Bumbo chair, but she’s getting bigger and needs more stimulation.
Maybe it was because I was feeling all happy and nurturing as the oxytocin coursed through my veins this Mother’s Day weekend, but I bought one.  I found the Bright Starts Bounce Bounce Baby.  It’s only $39 and much smaller.  I could handle that.  We can scoot it in the downstairs linen closet when not in use.  I figured out why it’s cheaper as I put it together.  It took FOREVER and you had to assemble every little part.  Shoot me!
But it was worth it…
Happy baby!  She moves so much when she’s in this thing, I only get blurry pictures.

This was her in the space pod when she was really little.  This picture MAKES ME LAUGH!

“Baby’s of the world UNITE!”  (I caught her mid-yawn, but it looks like she’s rallying the troops.)

A saucer and a space pod?  Somebody call NASA.

Name fame- May 6, 2011

Apparently Twilight is still cool, as indicated by Isabella and Jacob being on top again.  The official 2010 baby name rankings from the Social Security Administration came out yesterday.  Read the official release from the SSA.

Charlotte’s #1 in my book, but #45 in the nation.  Not too bad.  I’ll take it.  Here’s the Top 100 List.  I know what you’re thinking.  “My God, Amy are you writing another post about baby names?”  I am.  My readers know I’m obsessed.

A little background on my obsession
Read about all of our naming agony.  (I got so much feedback on this one, good and bad.)

Why we chose the name we did.  (Yeah, I wrote into a baby name advice column.  Don’t judge!  I’ve admitted I have an obession/problem. )

My exasperation over Charlotte’s rise in fame.

The thing that stuck out to me about the 2010 list is not the vampire/werewolf influence on pop culture, but the reality TV impact on pop culture.  Here’s the SSA release again if you didn’t read it.  Maci and Bentley were two of the fastest climbing names of the year.  I don’t watch it, but apparently Maci is some teenager who got knocked up and named her son Bentley.  Now they’re famous because of those “Teen Mom” and “16 and Pregnant” shows on MTV.  ::sigh::  Charlotte may never be allowed to watch MTV.  And to think my parents didn’t want me to watch it because of the negative influence of music videos.  That could lead to lewd behavior and thus, teen pregnancy.  Now MTV just glorifies teen pregnancy directly without that pesky music getting in the way.

Way to go America.  What we name our kids is influnenced by teenagers.
I hope Isabella stays on top of the list.  At least Bella is a teen who got pregnant after getting married.  Oops, I just ruined Breaking Dawn for someone.  Sorry.

6 months- May 2, 2011

Dear Charlotte,
Happy 1/2 Birthday!  Are you really 6 months old?  Really?  When I told people you were .5 years old today, no one believed me, but it’s true.

You have been nothing short of remarkable this month.  You overcame more cold/fever yuckiness.  You’ve just now started solids.  You celebrated your first Easter.  All of the sudden you are this tiny person interested in the world around you.  You love your toys now!  You especially love anything you can put in your mouth.  You used to just lay and stare at the mobiles on your play mat and Mama Roo.  Now you rip them down and stuff them in your face.  If I lay you on your back on a blanket with a toy, I’ll look away for a second, and then there you are on your tummy smiling, reaching for another toy.  Even in the last 3 days you are sitting up steadier than ever.  (There’s still a little tipping over a little, but you’re getting there, Big Girl.)

The doctor was thrilled with your growth at your 6 month appointment.  You are in the 17th percentile for weight, and like the 25th for weight.  (I gotta look at the paper, I’m not sure.)  Small, but growing at a great rate.

At school they planted a flower garden for your class.  Each baby brought in a flower.  I scoured the State Farmers’ Market for the perfect flower.  I’m not sure why, but these reminded me of you…

Miniature orange Gerbera  Daisies

I love you, my darling, darling girl.
Love,
Mama

Royalty in pajamas- May 1, 2011

A few weeks ago my Mom and Step-Dad were in England.  I had one request from their trip, a ridiculous William and Kate souvenir.  I knew the streets of London would be littered with kiosks exploiting the couple’s love and I was anxious to be a part of it.

They obliged.  Knowing my love of coffee, they got me this…

I didn’t have tea and scones, as I find tea to be less caffeinated and scones to be dry muffin-wannabes but, I had coffee and toast and happily geeked out in front of the TV for hours.  I was off Friday.  Contrary to popular belief (Greyson) I didn’t take off for the Royal Wedding, I was just had a vacation day scheduled already and I kept it.

I’m so glad I did!  My God it was heaven!  Am I right?!  Was it not awesome!?  I wanted to use unnecessary “u’s” in some of my most colourful words and say things like “brilliant” and “bloody”.  I had it on the DVR and got up around 5:30am.  I rewound a bit to watch the procession and see the Queen in all her yellow glory, but by the time Kate stepped out I was watching the whole thing live.  I did have to pause part of the service as my little royal watcher puked something crazy.  This was way beyond spit-up.  I almost stopped the Archbishop of Canterbury to perform an exorcism.  (She is just still fighting some mucas and felt better after she got it all up.  Sorry, too gross?)

I guess it meant a lot to me to watch it because I was born the week after Charles and Diana’s wedding.  My mom always told me how she was hugely pregnant with me when she watched that wedding.  I watched Kate, imagining how she must be feeling.  I realized it probably wasn’t that different from how I felt the day I married Greyson.  I think all brides are the center of attention and “princesses” for that one day.   I looked down at my little baby in her footy pajamas and dreamed about her wedding.  I’ll love being able to tell Charlotte all about watching the Royal Wedding with her goofy mama.  Maybe I’ll leave out the part about the puke.
